Compare and Contrast Picasso's 'The Weeping Woman' and and Daniella Hulmes 'A lazy day in paradise'.

This week Rm21 has been assigned another compare and contrast task but with two different artists. The two different artists are Pablo Picasso and Daniella Hulme.  Daniella Hulme’s artwork style is contemporary. Even though her heritage is Dutch, her famous painting style came from her husband who  is Samoan. Pablo Picasso’s style of art is Cubism. Weird artwork fills the wall that is painted by his particular hands. His style to me looks creepy. Lucky I don’t have any paintings of his on my wall just in case I feel creeped out.

I think that Picasso’s painting ‘The Weeping Woman’ is weird and ugly. The shapes and lines are crammed into one picture. Random colours also fill the painting. The woman in the painting has upset feelings. I know this isn’t supposed to be realistic.  Sadness conquers the painting. Looking at other perspectives this might have been what Picasso was feeling or was it? According to the research, a person named Dora Marr is the woman that Picasso had drawn. This painting was created in 1937.

‘A Lazy Day in Paradise’ is a beautiful and graceful painting. That is what I describe as a perfect picture. Bright colours and pretty patterns all over the painting, made me feel like I was in the islands or back in Rotorua. Looking at the woman that Daniella Hulme had drawn, her face looks nearly realistic. It was made in 2008. She used oil painting and the theme was Pacific Island.

Trying to discover the differences between Pablo Picasso “ The Weeping Woman” and Daniella Hulme’s “ A Lazy Day In Paradise”, I finally noticed that there are plenty of differences like colours, looks and perspectives. Picasso uses weird colours and Daniella Hulme uses bright colours, thats the first difference.  Of course another difference is the looks which are Picasso’s ugly and weird painting and Hulme’s graceful and relaxing painting. They both have different themes. Picasso has a probably a sad theme and Hulme’s theme is actually Pacific Island
Although there are heaps of differences, I guess their artworks are amazing, but sometimes Picasso’s paintings can freak me out. They’re both great artists in their own way. Picasso with his weird unusual artwork and Hulme with her Pacific artwork. I guess it was their gift to do art.

  1. The way you described the artwork but also included your own opinion on the pieces is absolutely fantastic! I LOVE the way you described Picasso's painting as "ugly and weird" and Hulme's as "graceful and relaxing". I makes your writing very interesting and enjoyable to read!
