Aussie Football League (AFL)

Learning more and more techniques every Thursday, Sam our AFL coach has been teaching us. Where? Well we had to play on the hardcourt. This is a great game to play. If it wasn’t for Kiwi Kick we wouldn’t of had our session and experience the time that we spend doing AFL.

Randomly, Room 21 messily walked towards the hardcourt to learn a new technique. Sam taught us a strategy called “Handball”. This particular technique is really simple... well that’s what I thought. My opponent was Mrs Lagitupu then Mrs Haapala, they were both good. I was looking for a strategy to pass or handball the ball to my opponent straight.

Suddenly there was a sound, a sound that was really loud and what  was the noise? It was a whistle. Everyone knew what that meant, and it meant moving on to the next activity.  Rules had filled everyone’s head as though they were traumatised. These rules seemed simple, but some kids had broken the rules.

Last game of the session was octopus. Instead of  the teachers touching us with their hands they had to handball the ball and hit us with it. Most times it was easy to dodge. Trying to find the right moment to run I realised that there were heaps of people in. Eventually I got out.

This activity made me realise that I had to get outside more. Sports like these have provided us to learn more skills and strategies in the future. I’m considering playing sports now.
