A tale of The Treaty Of Waitangi

Days before the treaty signing members of the British council and other British people came to New Zealand. They wanted to make an agreement between the Maori and Pakeha. Pakeha people wanted to make peace with the Maori’s with a treaty. It was signed on February 6th 1840 at Waitangi, Bay Of Islands, up North.

Participation, Protection and Partnership were used to bring Maori and Pakeha together. This simple way of life was also used for agreements towards the treaty. Between the Maori and Pakeha they used Participation and Partnership to sign the treaty. They also used Protection for protecting each other.

At Pt England School we use the 3P’s which is Protection, Partnership and Participation. Partnership and participation we use to co-operate together to complete and strive to succeed. There are heaps of ways to explain the 3P’s at our school.

Learning about the signing of the treaty back in the 1840’s was an interesting discovery. We’ve been learning it ever since last week. I had an opportunity to learn more about this event. More People in New Zealand could respect Waitangi day and also have the opportunity to learn more.

21st Celebration

Cruising down towards Koputauaki, Coromandel the night before New Years Eve, nearly the whole family came down to have my Uncle's 21st. We had to celebrate it down there because we needed to celebrate happy times for once. In the past we have been there for some sad times like funerals and other sad occasions.

Usually the parents and adults are the only ones to help, but I got to help setup the birthday and also help get it ready. Nearly all the aunties and uncles helped well the nannies just relaxed and had their cup-of teas and coffee.

HOORAY!!!! Once everything was all set I raced into the garage were the party was and was eager to see my surprised uncle’s 21st key. Everyone else was to. One of my uncle’s were taking photos, while my mum was taking a video. My uncle was very cheeky about his key. It was really funny when my aunty, uncle and mother were telling stories about him which was crack up because most of the stories was when he was little.

When the party was finished the adults started having their own party while the kids had to stay inside, which was very annoying because in there was mostly boring. Well at least everyone else had fun. I was stuck inside babysitting for my aunty well she was busy outside, well at least I had something to do.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD ROLE MODEL?

You might be wondering “what is a role model?”, well it’s a person that has a huge opportunity to take big responsibilities. At Pt England there are students that are yr 8’s that have to take charge of themselves and also others. Next year us yr 7’s have the opportunity to be leaders like the yr 8’s who will be at collage.

WHO IS SOMEONE IN YEAR 8 THAT HAS BEEN A GOOD ROLE MODEL?

Being a role model for me is the best thing in my life. The Yr 8 student I would look up to is Helen and Tia because they work hard and achieve the goals that they have set for themselves.

I think the best leader next year would be someone that co-operates and also have completed their goals and be great role models.

I am looking forward to being a yr 8 student at Pt England because it’s going to be interesting to do all the different things compared to the other students at Pt England school. Yr 8’s are also the top of the school, plenty of students have the opportunity to be role model’s for the little ones. There are many yr 8’s that have accomplished their goals that they had set for them selves this year and now I want to be one too.

Accomplish my goals that I have set for myself and to complete my tasks when it needs to be completed, and be able to get a scholar-ship at a good collage. So I’m looking forward to working hard towards my goals.

I WONDER IF HUMANS COULD SURVIVE ON SATURN?

Humans cannot survive on the planet Saturn because it is too cold. the temperature is -287 degrees Fahrenheit. that's too cold for someone too live on. There also isn't any oxygen so we can't breathe. The whole planet is almost only gasses. so basically you would die the second you step on this planet.

Athletics Day

“WAKE UP!” Shouted my sister as she kept shaking me until I woke up. Finally I realised it was athletics. Then got up and got ready for school. What it’s 8:30 already but I only took 5 minutes. I grabbed my lunch and raced out the door.

Wednesday Morning nearly everyone in the school was surprisingly wearing their house colours which made our school colourful. Getting ready on the netball courts, was the whole school in their age groups.

Once everyone head off to their starting positions our 11yr old and 12-12.9 girls started off with a simple activity of softball throw I knew that the further I throw it the more chances I can come first. Having a turn I made it in first place making me very happy but suddenly one of the girls beat me at coming first. Then I came second,then third then got out. But even though I didn’t come anything I still tried my best.

Approaching our next activity which was triple jump, I thought that it would be hard and didn’t make it anywhere with my nervousness and frustration. Being confused is like banging your head against the wall like a crazy person. Practicing and learning everything we were supposed to do. “Hop!,Step,Jump!” echoed everybody behind me. It was very difficult to learn, but then I got the hang of it.

Even though it was an exhausting day with the sun shining down on everyone there. I almost got dehydrated but luckily I drank plenty of water.

My Experience At Tamaki Tech

Waking up early Monday morning I realised that it was Tech. I really didn’t want to go. Suddenly I look at the time, “Oh no I'm late already, but it’s only been 5 minutes” I thought. I grabbed my bag and my lunch and raced out the door.

Finally I reached school finding out that team 5 had already left for Tech at Tamaki College. It was really upsetting to get left behind but I guess it was my fault. Mrs Jarman was kind of nice to drop me off and also Naomi.

Once we got to Tamaki College we all raced towards our class rooms. As I walked in to the class everyone who was there was learning stuff than Mr Dewan had taught them, but then he had to repeat it all for the late comers.

Everybody was put into groups from number 1 through to number 7. There was heaps of mucking up that heaps of people did. But at the end, all the mischief had ended. So we got back to work. There were some kids that demonstrated how to use a Bunsen burner. Most of them thought it was easy.

Science is not my favourite subject at the moment because I don’t like doing stuff like experimenting and plus it’s boring. We learnt plenty of things like how to use a Bunsen burner and also how to use a gas tap.

Do you ever wonder about certain things like do planets order themselves in biggest to smallest from the sun or is Earth the only planet that has life and why does it have life?
Well if there are questions that needs answering here are some answers that you might be looking for all your hard questions in this story.

During sometime yesterday Rm 21 and Mrs Lagitupu wanted to find out more about the planets in the universe for our test. Then explained what we had to do and after that we walked outside when we discovered it started pouring down with rain, suddenly we aborted our plans and hurried inside and sat straight on the mat. Mrs Lagitupu gave me and the other 9 people balloons so that we could see what size was the smallest and the largest planet.

Science classified Pluto as a dwarf planet which means that it isn't a nineth planet in the solar system only in the universe. When we blew up the balloons to their normal size or at least to make miniature ones. We learnt that there was life on Earth because their was plenty of air, water and also land. Did you know that our planet Earth is the third planet from the Sun and also take a year to revolve around it. The order from the sun is Mercury,Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and (Pluto).

Did you know if we were on Mercury we would have died!!! It’s true because Mercury is actually the hottest planet in the solar system and also in the universe. The planet’s direction is always going anti-clock wise. Jupiter is the biggest planet and is also the fifth planet away from the sun. Earth is just the right amount of space away from the sun otherwise we’ll be cooked or even worst dead!!!!!!.

The thing I most struggled with most was blowing up the balloon but then I got there at the end. The favourite part that enjoyed was finding a bit about the solar system because I hardly knew anything about it. I actually learnt about how all the planets move around the sun. If this helped you with all your questions then great. Everything that I learnt was worth writing about especially for this test. Luckily we are not on the hottest planet that will be freaky.

Tennis

Wednesday morning, walking onto the courts there were nets and rackets and also tennis balls, and then I realised the sport we were doing tennis. I thought it was still badminton but then I remembered that it finished sometime last term.

Getting started on our first lesson, it took ages to learn one simple lesson which was holding the racket properly. Also learning how to do 30 bounces on the ground and also bouncing on the racket. It was really confusing for me cause the first time I tried it I sort of got it wrong.

There was one game that we played and that was the king of the court. It was like a challenge sort of. Most of us got to be the king, even some of us didn’t even participate, that was most of the girls.

Even though we had half an hour of tennis, nearly every one had fun, well I think. Can’t wait for the next lesson which is next week. Learning more and more of lesson for this term.

New Zealand's Victory

Sunday night there was a rugby world cup final between
New Zealand and France. Our Country has been waiting for this opportunity for the last 24 years at least. It’s the second half of the game and only 2 minutes on the clock. GAME OVER!!! New Zealand won 8-7 just by 1 point.

Walking up onto the plat form France went to go get there rewards for second place. After their team walked off the plat form and All Blacks went up and got their medals and we congratulated by their fans in the stadium. Richie Mc Caw held up the Web Ellis cup.
Everybody was proud of him even my family at home was extremely proud that our country won.

Even though we won the rugby world cup tournament, I wondered who would be still around for 4 more years and will stay and establish their goals and make our country proud. Even though France lost I am still proud of them making a great start right through to the end. I can’t wait for the next rugby world cup so the All Blacks can make to the end again.

My Responsibilities

There are heaps of responsibilities that I have at school like being a monitor and even being a normal student. I have been in kapa haka for ever since I started school.

Being a monitor is really a big responsibility of mine cause if I don’t do it right it’s all my fault. There are only 2 people allowed in the resource room. Which is Chelsea and I. Some times there would be a bundle of books to do and it will be pretty tough. Some times we do it at lunchtime everyday.

Kapa Haka is part of my culture and it is more important to me than anything else apart from doing my job. Apart from all the silliness in our group we still work together as a group. When it’s time to perform all of us are ready. I love those times when we got to perform.

Even though I have big responsibilities I enjoy having them unless I do something boring!!!!
But apart from that I really enjoy being a student at Pt England School. These responsibilities help me with my learning and education.

Being a Monitor

Being a Monitor

My job is being a book room monitor. I usually do it every lunch time only if I have nothing to do in the resource room. There are only 2 people allowed in the resource room. Everyday it’s Chelsea and I doing it no one else.

Sometimes it could be really tricky, because sometimes there will be heaps of stuff to put away. Especially the books, sometimes there will be a bundle of books stacked up in boxes.

Yesterday Chelsea and I found more books in a box hidden under the desk. Soon enough we had to put them away. Hope there won’t be that much books when we go back to do our job.

Term 3 Highlights

This term our topic is keep your eye on the ball. There are heaps of highlights and some of them are my favourite.

Every Mondays team 5 goes down to Tamaki Collage for tech. The class I’m in at the moment is Electronics which is my least favourite subject. Technology is my first highlight because there are heaps of things to learn.

Badminton is a sport with skills and techniques. The first lesson was really fun. Every other week Room 21 used to have badminton. My favourite part of badminton is having fun.

Kapa Haka is apart of Maori culture and this is one of my highlight’s. Miss Tito is the kapa haka teacher and the tutors are there to support us. Being in competitions is really cool for the kapa haka crew. We learnt heaps of songs every Friday. This is my favourite because I like to know more about my culture.

Last Tuesday afternoon, team 5 hastily walked to the bottom field to play some silly sports. There were 4 games to choose from. There were 2 teachers to guide us through each game. Each teacher had their own game. But to started off with the teachers had to take us to their game first. There were four games and four teachers teachers that had a game each. Mrs Lagitupu (Rm21) , Miss Tito (Rm22), Mr Harris (Rm19) and also Mrs Nua (Rm20). They all had different games and had different strategies to it. Every time the horn rang it was time to move to the next activity.quietly and silently to the next activity. I think this activity was all about co-operation and support.

There were different games to choose from, but Rm 21 had to go to Mrs Lagitupu’s game first and it was called Ball Tiggy. The strategy was all about working together and supporting your team. There were 3 teams ( red, yellow and blue). There was 2 games going all at once. Mrs Clarke guarded one and Mrs Lagitupu guarded the other. I didn’t really wanted to play but I had to anyway. As soon as the horn rang we started to walk quietly and quickly towarads the next activity

As we walked towards Miss Tito’s game we had line up in a single line. Miss Tito demonstrated and then we started to take turns. This strategy was all about aiming. But before we started two students had to hold the sling shot.

There were hoops, and if

we got a ball in then we get points. First each person took their turn. Apparently we didn’t get any points apart from Stevie hitting Nathaniel so we only got 10 points for that. Afterwards when we had our first turn everyone had rushed up and had a second go. Nobody got any thing in, but Tanielu was the closet to the hoop. There were heaps of balls to choose from. I didn’t want a turn, but it looked like everyone else was having fun. This game was all about aiming.

It was time for the next activity. So we lined up

and silently walked over to Mr Harris game.Walking towards Mr Harris game. We all had to pair up with each other. Everyone were pairing up and lining up in to five groups. I wasn’t participating because I didn’t feel like it. Even though I didn’t participate I still had fun watching some of the pairs fall and trip. Some of them even had to drag their feet and also balance at the same time. The finalist were Casey and Moses, Stevie and Tevita. Then the horn ra

ng and it was time to walk to the next activity.

Quickly walking to the last activity towards Mrs Nua’s game. Looking at the buckets of water and sponges, I quickly knew that it was a sponge race. First Mrs Nua explained to us how it worked. There was 4 teams. I was in group number 3. Trying

not to squeeze the sponge, I knew we were already going to lose. The ones who won was group number 1. This activity was really fun. It was disgusting when some people drank the water out from the sponge. Luckily I didn’t get wet if I did I

would of got in trouble. But some of us got a little bit wet. But they had

spear clothes.

Even though I didn’t participate in 2 activities I still had fun at the other 2. My favourite activity was the sponge race (Mrs Nua’s). It was very fun because some of us got wet by passing it to each other. Some of us had spare clothes on and some didn’t. Apart from getting wet I really enjoyed it. That day I thought it was going to be boring but actually it wasn’t. I had the best silly sports day ever. Hope we can do it every Tuesday’s. Some of these games were very exhausting and tiring.

Missing School

Last week early Monday morning I had to skip school and go to Thames with my brother, sister and also my Nan. But first we started packing our bags and stuffed our bags in the back seat. On the way to Thames we had to drop off my Auntie at the Kelston transition school. We had to go to Thames to attend court because my Nan was a witness there. It took 2 days to figure out how long and what time the court starts and finished.

When we arrived in Thames, it was really cool because it's great to be back in my home town. Thames is a suburb in the Coromandel Peninsula. Being there for a whole week was really cool. It gave me an opportunity to hang out with my family who I don't really see that much. I saw my mother, brothers, sister and also my step dad. My favourite place to go to in Thames is the mall.

On a Tuesday afternoon the adults went to court for my step dad's court case. Us kids had to wait out in the car. There were only 4 of us kids while the other 2 were at school. It was very boring. My mum came out of the court house and took us out to the park. I felt bored.

It was Sunday afternoon and it was time to leave. Saying good bye to everyone was very upsetting because I wanted to see them more. Having a whole week down in Thames was really cool. I can't wait to go back. It was a great time to hang out with the family, even though my sister, brother and I missed a week of school. That was the best excuse to skip school ever. My favourite thing that I did was visiting my family and spending time with them.

Holiday Highlights

During the school holidays I went to Thames. On the way down to Thames I fell asleep during the ride. When I got there all I did was watch TV and I sometimes play outside.

Over there was her baby brother he was also annoying. Every time I was up late he woke up in the middle of the night and started crying. It was very irritating for me because he cries a lot. Then I had to put him to sleep at 1:00am in the morning while I was watching TV.

But sometimes when my mum was busy I had to go to my aunty’s. That’s the only time I go there. My mum babysits my cousin’s from Monday-Friday so my aunty comes and picks up her kids and she also had to pick me up. My aunty’s house is not that far from my mum’s house. It is opposite of Thames South School. That is where I might be going next year.

When I was at my aunty’s all I did was watch a movie called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1. It was a very interesting movie. Some parts were scary, and some parts weren’t that much. While I was there I hopped onto her laptop and went straight on Facebook. But that was after dinner. I had to also look after my cousins. One is 1yrs old and the other is 2yrs old. Looking after them is really annoying.

Apart from all the trouble that my uncle had caused, I mostly had a thrilling holiday. I also had a great time to hang out with my family especially my mum, brothers and sisters that I only see in the holiday. Next week I’m going to see them in the weekend.

My report

Its nearly the end of the school term and I’ve just recently got my report. I have a really good report. The graphs show me where I’m at. It could really help me improve on my writing, reading and also maths.

My levels and grades are improving and I am really trying to get a better grade. Reports are essential, because they can help you to see how well you’re doing, and see whether you have achieved or not. I am really happy with my report because I did well.

Term 2 highlights

My highlight for term 2 is Taonga time. Team 5 have been doing this every Friday after morning tea. Being in the Kapa Haka group means that I have to be in Miss Tito’s class. But last week on Friday we didn’t have Miss Tito, instead we had Toko’s mum Sophie and also Mr Umu.

The day before the ‘I Am Making Movies 2’ competition the Kapa Haka group was practicing so we could have confidence on that day. We performed the next day at the Auckland Museum and we were really nervous. All that practice really helped us otherwise we would have been lost.

Being in the Kapa Haka group is really important for me because I really wanted to know more about my culture and Miss Tito really helped me. This has been a really great opportunity. I’ve been in Kapa Haka since I was 6yrs old.

If a disaster hits will you be prepared? There are plenty of disasters that happen in New Zealand. There was a big disaster in Christchurch in the South Island. So if a disaster struck you always have to be prepared even if it is a small earth-quake.

There are heaps of volcano’s which we think are extinct, but will we be kept safe from harm?

During a tsunami, being on higher ground is a better place to be in this situation. It can be pretty scary, but if we help each other then we can get through this together.
Evacuating to higher ground is very important otherwise you’ll die easily if there was a tsunami.

The place which has had the most disasters lately is Christchurch. They are having problems around their area. Some of us New Zealanders have helped them so they can have a better environment.

Getting ready before a disaster hits is really important because it might just save your life. So it is really important to be prepared. If you need help and don’t know how to get it, you can grab information on the internet or contact a family member and ask them for information. Making a survival kit is really important it will save your life and help people in the community or even your family.
The things you need for a survival kit is some can food some water and also some camping kits. So what ever you do keep yourself safe.

Tamaki Tech

This is the last week for tech. Team 5 always go every Monday in the morning block. I dislike tech because my subject that I’m in is graphics. We go to Tamaki College for these classes. We leave school at 8:30am and start at 9, then we finish at 11. There are 5 different subjects. These are Science, Food Tech ,Electronics, Hard materials (Wood tech) and Graphics.

In graphics today I came late and there were plenty of students also coming late, but we were in time for finishing off our work. My graphics teacher is Ms Ferguson and she is a really good artist. We were working on our cards today that we have been making. There were heaps of Yr 7’s and only 1 yr 8 student in our class today. This is the last week of tech and that is really disappointing.

Its nearly the end of the school term and half the class is not finished. My project is a halloween card. I am trying to focus and finish it. To me it looked really difficult to make. Drawing is very difficult and frustrating. Being frustrated is very annoying. I am nearly finished, and being in this class taught me more knowledge. Being at Tamaki College really helped me. I can’t wait for next term and see what subject I am in.

Tamaki Science Roadshow

It was Thursday Room 18,19 and 21 walked to Tamaki College for a science roadshow. There was 2 shows to see. One was all about temperature and the other was our senses.

After the first show loudly we split into groups and started exploring around the exhibits. There was heaps of things to explore. Nearly everything had to do with was heat and temperature. Some of them had to do with skills. Some Tamaki students had to be explainers so we don't get confused and also so we know what we could do. While we were looking at some exhibits we got cards so if we get 3 clips on the card we would have to be into win an awesome prize in the next show. We had to get our card clipped only if the teachers ask a question then we get it right.

There was a 2nd show before we started Shane one of the presenters drawn out 2 names from Room 21 and they were Paulita and Athena and they won prizes. After that we were talking about our senses and there are 5 senses called tasting,listening, feeling,smelling and also seeing. There was heaps of things that we talked about. Clinging on to our seats while there was an experiments. It was fascinating between experiments because there was heaps of cool ones.

My favourite part was the part when we searching around the exhibits and doing different things that some of were really difficult to find out what we had to do but at leasted we had explainers there to help us.w

Technology is very important, we use it in different ways here are some ways we could use it.

Technology is use for different things like computers, T.V and heaps more. Technology is everything to do with communication. If there was no technology imagine what the world would be like.

Computers were invented for communication. There are different kinds of computers and they have different uses and different users. Also there are different types of ways to communicate. Some computers are for school or just to play around on.

They have different types of uses. But the biggest thing that it was created was for communication. There are different ways to communicate by going on Facebook, Twitter or Bebo. There are also different uses like games, music, emails and lots more.

Workers have different types of computers compared to the kids. Kids like us have i-macs to use around or during school. They use them for work, home-work or even using it for research.

There are different types of computers like laptops or netbooks. Netbooks is what we have to use at school. Imacs are used for animations and any work that people can finish. Even if it is online, like creating blogs.

Computers work on electricity and power. These technical inventions mostly work on battery power. They work only if you have no technical difficulty around the house and the internet is working.

Some Computers are expensive today and some ain't. Some of them cost up to $2000 and that is expensive. Now we have to pay heaps of money just to buy a computer or Laptops.

The Internet is great because we can use them on laptops and computers. Computers are used for different kind of things, interesting things actually. My favourite things on the computer is music and games.

Being sick of my annoying brother

Laying in bed staring at the empty television screen. I knew straight away I was sick. Tiredly crawling off my bed my Nan started screaming “WAKE UP!,ITS 6:30”she said angrily.

It was Friday morning and the last day of the second week of school. Today I had to skip school because I had the flu. Coughing and sneezing everywhere I asked if I could stay home . My Nana said yes! My brother also had to stay home because he had a sore ankle by playing rugby. Billy has to use crutches around the house. Now he can’t play rugby, until his leg is better. My sister had to go to school and buy her lunch.

Staying home is really dumb because I got nothing exciting to do. So I went with my brother and my Nan to go shopping for groceries. I hate missing out on school. Other wise it will be boring.

Cellphones

Cellphones
Cellphones are made mostly for communicating. The age when you were suppose to get your first phone is between 10 or when you become an adult.

Some adults use it for Internet or teenagers use it for music downloads and face-book which children aren’t allowed on because they are too young. The age when you start face-book is when you’re 11,12 or 13. Face-book is also for communication. There is different ways like texting and also calling.

There are plenty of uses that a cellphone can have like kids enjoy playing games, listening to music, downloading songs or even games. You can take photos or videos. Internet is mostly the favourite thing on the phone. adults like going on the Internet for Facebook, Twitter and Bebo.

There are plenty types of cellphones like Nokia, Samsung, Telecom,Vodafone, Panasonic and also i phones. I phones are very interesting you can touch the screen and not use buttons all you do is touch the screen and roll the screen to what ever you want unless you want to use the buttons flip the phone and you’ll find what you are looking for like any buttons. You can take photos with out flipping the phone. Some phones are different like some can’t take photos or it can’t play songs or some can’t even play games or go on the Internet. Some can or can not bluetooth.

These technical inventions work on batteries if their not charged then they will go flat. If you don’t charge your phone then you don’t get to use it. Calling is easy all you do is type in the number and then press the green dial and just listen to the other person says “hello” then you carry on with your conversation. Texting is like having a conversation but you are using words to describe yourself. Sending text messages is easy it is also another way to communicate. If you don’t have enough credit to call you can just text. It can translate to one cellphone to another. It is also useful if someone needs help and they can text family members or just call the emergency number.

Cellphones cost heaps of money only it depends on what brand it is. Usually it cost $50-$1000 but prices keep going up and down the budget ones are usually cost $50.00 and the iPhone cost in between $100-$1000. Heaps of cellphones are really expensive so heaps of people check the price tags just to check if they are expensive or not.

Powhiri

Coming early to school on Monday was a day that the Yr 7 and 8 Kapa Haka group had a Powhiri in school. Sadly some kids had to go to tech. Plenty of us came extra early to get ready for this event. Miss Tito got all of the girls and boys ready. First we had a practice of the 4 items we would be performing on the day. Getting in our places, trying to get ready. It was time to perform. Our powhiri was for welcoming the visitors from Wake Forest University.

I felt nervous getting on stage because it is very freaky. Before we got started with our first waiata, there were classes sitting down and staring at us. Wairua Tapu was our first song. Feki had to do the prayer and Tevita did the mihi. Our 4 songs were Wairua Tapu, Karanga Mai Ra, E Minaka and Ma Te Kahukura.

After our first song the visitors started singing. Performing on Monday was much better than going to tech. I was getting lost behind everyone while doing the actions. Concentrating on these actions and the crowd is very difficult for me.

This was the first event that we ever had as a Kapa Haka group this year. We didn’t even have this event before Miss Tito even came to Pt England School. This is the first powhiri that we had at Pt England School while the year 7 and 8 students are at this school.
We were still cold even when we were performing because the doors were open and we didn’t even wear our jackets. It would of been better and warmer if we had worn our jacket. Trying to perform in cold weather without wearing jackets is dumb because we were shivering before we even performed for the visitors.

Trying to earn points

Trying to earn points

Being behind on the score board is very upsetting for my class, Rm 21. We need to earn or achieve more points. We are way behind from the other classes in team 5. We are trying to receive more points by focusing or listening to our team 5 teachers so we won’t be behind all the others. Right now we are the last class and we have 225 points. Winning so far is Room 19 with 590 points.

In team assembly to receive more higher points we need to sit up in a row and focus on listening to the people doing a karakia and mihimihi. These people get 10 points for their class. You can also get 50 points for being the best class at assembly and that is what we need to achieve.

In school assembly you can get points for lunch box hero’s which we haven’t done yet ever since school started and is worth 50 points. Even a simple principal award is worth 10 points, even if you get 2 stickers. Being the best class and first class is worth 50 points each.

During morning tea and lunch time we have to make sure the street is very clean. Just by a simple thing like sitting down when we are eating can earn us points.

Immersion Term 2

Team 5 students are studying ‘Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger’. Based on this topic we are doing immersion classes with each of the teachers in our team. The ones we have done so far is Imagination, Creativity and Practicality. Imagination was in Rm 21, creativity in Rm 22 and practicality in Rm 18.

Imagination is thinking about what things you want to think about and stuff you don’t want to think about. This is mostly about thinking. Creativity is mostly about creating and focusing on different things like art and using your imagination. Practicality is mostly talking about whats practical and what was not.

My favourite topic immersion so far is creativity. Going on-line and searching for fonts or images of the alphabet to re-write our names. Miss.T said who ever gets the best entry wins a balloon sling shot and the chance to water their classmates and even their teachers. The first 3 winners would win this awesome prize and even get an opportunity to do these things.

My favourite part was creating my name in a fancy way. Grabbing images off the Internet Room 21 had to put the letter of the alphabet and make their name out of the letters they searched. I wonder “who’s going to win?”. I hope it’s someone from Room 21.

Later in the week our third immersion was practicality in Mr Barks class, Room18. We learnt what was practical and impractical. Learning about these things is very helpful. Mr Barks was talking about a leaf blower that had no pipe. He asked if it was practical and impractical. Practicality means the aspects of a situation that involve the actual doing or experience of something rather than theories or ideas. Practicality uses responsibility and imagination.

Innovation is a new method an idea or a product. In Mr Harris class,we learnt about historic things and new things. Talking about these things were boring that we searched up these things on the inter-net. Before we did that we had to create a presentation in Google-doc. Making our presentation collecting historic things and new things.

Albany’s shocking event

Yesterday Auckland had a tornado in Albany. This was a tragedy for the families who lost a family member (two people died) and who had injured family members. There was a humongous tornado which made roof tilings fling off houses and cars flip over on the motorway. These were some of the things that occurred on that day.

It was a harsh day for Albany. This tornado had fierce winds and acted like a mean beast. This day was not your ordinary day. It was just a day with weird events. You just never know what’s going to happen next.

Some stores were damaged completely leaving people injured. These people were terrified about this event. If I was part of this event I would panic and wonder how I was going to get out of this mess.

My pet is the best pet in the world because it is an underwater pet that swims all day. Her name is Sophie. She lives in Dark Under World Island in the dark forest. Her favourite foods are mostly puddings and desserts. She loves visiting the park or the shops to play and buy puddings. These are her favourite places to visit. Visiting Dark Under World is pretty scary. Going through the forest of darkness is always scary. It is like going on a creepy adventure with a stranger.

Everyone arriving with the presents and gifts while he kids were playing and the adults were busy preparing for my baby cousin’s and nana’s birthday party. It was my cousin’s 1st birthday and my nan’s 61st.

It was funny because one of my aunties accidently made a 62nd cake.They got mixed up between how old she was. But luckily they made my cousin a 1st birthday cake. So my nan was 60yrs older than him. My baby cousins name was Kikorangi or we call him whero because he’s got red hair.

This was a really fun birthday to have especially on the same day. Even though my auntie got the wrong number on the cake it was still delicious.

I think my cousin would of thought that the presents were the best part of the party. Well I thought that the cake was the best part of all. This was a cool party to have.Everyone was having a great time even the kids.Running around playing all the kids were just tagging each other.

My Grand mothers funeral

Last Monday night at 8:00pm my Grand mother passed away. Hearing about this made everyone in my family sad, so the next day I missed school and went to Manurewa to go to her funeral. It was really sad and not to mention family members had been having a tough time since my grand mother passed away. This has affected my mum and my mum’s sister’s and brothers, also my mums cousins, aunties and uncles.

On Wednesday morning we left to head to Coromandel so we had to wake up early at 7:30am and left at 10:00am. My aunty, two sisters, my brother and I went with my grand mother all the way to Coromandel and began the trip. We stopped at many gas station because they had to get gas. Also my uncle brought us chips at the gas station as well as a drink because we were thirsty and hungry at the same time. Finally we got their.My nan had to call us in. I had to carry my great grand father who passed away last year and got cremated. Everyone was sobbing even my mum and my 2 aunties. After all the family has passed through and seen her. We went to have a feed.

It was Thursday morning I just came back with my sister’s and brother’s from my aunties house down on the beach. It was the day when we were going to bury my nan down at the utupah in Coromandel. It was upsetting to see her in this position. Before she passed she was really sick in the hospital.I wonder how her baby boy is going to feel when he grows up and finds out that his mother has passed away. Then he will be visiting his mother and in a sad way. He was screaming his head of at the tangi. It was time to bury here everyone had a chance to speak even her children and even her sisters,brothers,cousins,auntie’s and uncle’s had a koreo with her. It has been a tough road for our family because my great grand father died last year and every one was there at his funeral and I hope everyone will come to his evaling in Mania.

It was time to go home. Everyone stopped at Mac Donalds for lunch in Thames. While the kids and I were waiting we roamed around the mall. When the adults were ready we had a big feed. When we were finished we went to the park. Soon we were on our way home to Manurewa. We had a second feed and started to go home because the adults were drinking so some of the kids had to go home.

We had a great time. Even we had plenty of sleep and food to eat so we didn’t starve and we were not tired either. This has been a very important 4 days to miss school.

Camp Take charge

It was the first day of camp for 2011. We were split into 6 groups called the Respectablez Responsiblez, Thinkerz, Motivatorz, Carerz and the Participatorz.

I was in Motivatorz. Our first activity was tent set up. We were split into groups to make our tents. Awhina, Tina, Tule and I were in one tent. We had 4 people in our tent.

Walking to the street we had to do hangi preparation. Each one of us helped out the parents or teachers.There was Miss Tito, Lepa’s Mum Bobby and Matthew’s mum Selina.
They were helping out their kids and helping prepare for the delicious hangi we had for dinner.

We walked down to the Pt England reserve for the next activity. It was kayaking. Kayaking is the thing I suck at the most because I’m not a sports person, and I don’t play that much. The others succeeded without falling, well some of the Motivatorz fell out. It was mostly the boys who kept on falling out.

It was lunch time and none of us had lunch so we sat down by our tent and had our lunch.Then we started leaving for the next activity.

We went to Mrs Lagitupu’s class for item practise for the concert night.The item was going to be fun and exciting. We had to do a MTV for the camp concert to earn more points for our group. The special item was ‘I’m yours’ by Jason Mars. Awhina, Hainite and Joshua did the special item. It was amazing.

On Monday night at 8:00pm it was movie time. We had to chose between Toy Story 3, Willow or Despicable Me! I chose Willow because I haven’t seen it. Willow was a long movie, and there was more girls than boys in the room. Toy Story 3 was in Room 22, Miss Tito class. Room 20, Mrs Nua, had Despicable Me! Room 19, Mr Harris, had Willow. Willow was a long movie. Some of the kids that were in there almost fell asleep.
Day 2
On Tuesday night was the Camp Take Charge Concert night for 2011. Parents were walking in and watching Mrs Lagitupu announce the first group. Responsiblez was walking up on the stage and watching their MTV video while they got ready for their item.

It was our last day of camp.We went to Swimarama for a swim and a relaxing day. This event was the best in camp. This was my favourite thing about camp so far this year. I hope I can get more opportunities to keep going to camp every year until I go to College.

In the weekend

On Sunday afternoon my family & I went to the beach on a hot summers day.

In the evening my sisters, brothers and my auntie all went to go swimming.Splashing water everywhere, my auntie was frustrated because she had water in her hearing aids.

Even though the rest of my family was not going swimming, they still had a relaxing time. They were just having a picnic while the kids were playing and swimming.

Even though I did not go swimming I still had a relaxing time,I also felt great. I did not need anyone to play with me because I really enjoyed having some alone time.

Finally we left the beach. We decided to go home after a hot day the weather was good to go to the beach and its time to leave.

This was a great day to go to the beach. It was the best thing to do on labour weekend.I was feeling great about it. That was interesting.

My Auntie's surprise birthday party

My Aunty’s Surprise party

Celebrating my auntie birthday on New Years Eve in Thames is really cool, she just turned 25yrs old on that day.
In Thames my aunty’s mum told all of the family to hide in the garage,so my auntie’s birthday was a surprise party. It was held in Thames at her mum’s house.

This is the best day to have a birthday party because it was New Years Eve. It had to be fun.We waited for her to turn up and she did. Finally when she came through the gate we quickly ran to the garage which was set up by my 2cousins and my mum. “This is going to be fun” I thought.

Finally she came and we yelled “SURPRISE!”.She had got a fright. We started the party and started playing the music. The kids were playing outside while the adults were having a great time. This have been the best day of my aunties life. I really think that my auntie enjoyed herself the way she was dancing and making a fool of herself.

My summer with my family

In the holidays I went to a Bidois reunion in Tauranga with my mum, sisters, brothers, aunties, and my baby cousin. When we we got there, I met a lot of my family that I didn't know. I said "hello" to all my cousins, aunties, uncles, nanas and also my papas. Some of the kids were wet because they were playing in the swimming pool while the rest were playing basketball on the front lawn. It was a fun day, but my favourite part was eating scrumptious food with the kids after all the fun had ended.

My sister going to the hospital

On Tuesday 8 march during school my sister went to the hospital to see what was wrong with her.She hasn’t been eating solids for over 2-3 weeks. That is why she has to see what was wrong. All she has been eating is ice-cream and yogurt. She has had been drinking plenty of milo or cups of tea.

Seeing Taamai in hospital is very touching and sad. This has been a tough road for her and our family. Her dad just visited her today on Wednesday. Her dad is my step dad, but our mum didn’t come. Our mum would have seen her and be crying right now.

I’m sure she didn‘t eat much or get enough sleep. I asked my nan, “how did Taamai get into the hospital?” She said that she is sick and has got something wrong with her tonsils. I hope she comes back healthy and safe.

School Picnic

Every year Pt England School had a school picnic at Pt England reserve.Parent helpers came to help out the Pt England students.This is a special event with kids playing and eating with their parents, friends or classmates. There are many things we liked to do.

The junior school were searching on the beach for crabs.Searching under rocks the little Pt England students were astonished to see those little creatures crawling all over the place. They were showing them to their friends and teachers. They just wanted to take them home, but they couldn’t.

There is loads of things that this school likes.Like sports for instants. Plenty of kids like sports even the seniors,sprinting around bases playing softball and baseball. When it comes to these sports I don’t like playing that much. I like playing netball or basketball. These sports I can play, because I like shooting the ball into the hoop.

It was time to leave. All the fun times are left at Pt England reserve. This has been fun and exciting at the same time. We have had lots of playing and sprinting. We walked back to school and had a little free time in our classrooms.

Tamaki Tech Reflection

On Monday 14th of Febuary 2011 we started walking to Tamaki Collage,year7's & yr8's Pt England students were on their way to tech.As we arrived everyone went to their classes.I was in a wood tech class,and the group that I was in was 7a.As we started class we got out chairs and sat at our tables.We got a booklets to put our ideas in.My teacher was Mr Grundy.We learnt how long was the timber,which is 320mm long.We were designing things that we can create out of 320mm wood.We were also learning about 7 safety rules.Mr Grunty gave us scrap paper to draw our rough designs on it.It was hard to draw 3D pictures because it is extremly hard, maybe because if we made a mistake no one will be having a rubber to use.Crowding around the table,Mr Grundy show us a few designs.
It was another Monday of tech and we moved on to measuring and cutting.We are going to start building next week.This is a really hard class to deal with,because we have to cary the tools carefully.Carying the tools, you have to cary them very steady and carefully.Going to a wood class is really tough, really I guest I really wasn't paying attention in class. I hope I make something useful,and more trustful.I'll try my best every week.

Christchurch earthquake

On Tuesday 22 a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch,New Zealand. This is a tragedy for family's around New Zealand. So on Friday the 4th of march 2011 we are having mufti day so we can raise money for this city.Some kids are not going to school today because their school had collapsed and so had other buildings.This is devastating for the people who has no where to sleep and has family in this country that might need them to go home,but they can't. Also they might have no food to eat unless they have emergency kits. I hope people get rescued under all the rubble and collapsed buildings. Yesterday in assembly Mr Burt was talking about this tragedy event and how that there was no school for the children in Christchurch and if the children went to school their parents wouldn't be there to pick them up after school like our parents do. This all so sad so Tia and Tanielu did a prey and Mr Burt also did a pray but a closing pray to bless the children that are not going to school. I hope their safe in Christchurch also and I hope their going to be rescued alive. This is a tragedy to all New Zealand people and kiwis. 200 people are lost under neath all the collapsed buildings and rubble. Food are being feed to the homeless and shelter to the ones who have no were to sleep. These people are trying their best to
stay out of collapsed buildings. 200 people are lost in the debree and rubble also the colapsed buildings. As the buildings were tumbling down a huge dust cloud covered the whole city like Christchurch. Many people around New Zealand is talking about this all over the news. This earthquake is a tragic event. I don’t know if all the kids will make it out alive.
